Original Intro (2010)

The original conception of the show began in December 2007, and it's inspiration came from a plethora of animated TV shows and movies.

The original description of the character and setting (2009): Devon Hawkins, was an average young adult living in the futuristic city. One night at his college he had to do a research paper for his Literature class. So he went to the local library. While doing research he stumbled upon an old ancient book imprinted with the "Ωmega" symbol. He opened the book to find empty pages. The book started to glow and the Ωmega symbol on the front disappeared. He then noticed the exact symbol was on his t-shirt. The next day he found that every t-shirt he wore, the symbol would be imprinted on them as he wore it. Not long after all this, he started to develop superpowers. Such as shape shifting. He could copy the abilities of others. However he is not the only person with this ability. Others have found different versions of the book Devon has found. Each have different Greek alphabet symbols and different abilities. The closest enemy and who shares the same abilities as Ωmega, is λlpha. Hes Ωmega's sworn enemy and the two share opposite views on the world. It is unknown who or what created the books that gave away these abilities or for what reason they exist. To this day still hopes to uncover the mystery.

JTmovie began work on the idea of the series back in late, 2007. He was influenced by various animated TV shows growing up as a child [2]. Before animation, he had dabbled with other movie creator games and software's like the video game, "The Movies" (2005) [3]. The drawing above (made in late 2007) was conceptually a super hero and villain with the Omega, and Alpha symbols accordingly. Not much else was thought of at the time other than them being sworn enemies.

The animation that first inspired him to animate was a short titled "Wolf Vs. Jack" by Dom Fera [4]. This led him to learning of at home animation software's, like Adobe Flash 8, and he set out to create his own animated TV show. The first couple weeks were a struggle using the program, and overtime gave up on the attempt. A year or so later, he took a brief animation course in High School that expanded his understanding of the program. He began to expand through self teaching and YouTube tutorials from Jazza Studios [5]. While he knew at the time he couldn't animate by drawing frame-by-frame, he could draw each character into parts to build up character models. With this, he designed three characters with specific body parts placed into graphics in Flash 8. Each had a head, torso, shoulder, forearms, legs and feet. This allowed him to move each character on the timeline to mimic an animated sequence. Similar to the TV show "South Park".

Design

There was initially no direct design or style that inspired the show itself. Most of the shows look was a random collection of rough drawings. Devin's look, however was inspired by many characters. His facial features and hair style was inspired by Theo, from the Michael Turner Comic "Shrugged" [6] and costume was influenced by Sora from Kingdom Hearts II (2005). Some buildings and technology were influenced by Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002).

Episodes

Omega: Doomsday

ΩMEGA

ΩMEGA

Original Episode 1 (February 2010). This is also the first animation JTmovie created.

The first episode was conceived of between December 2008 and February 2009. Due to inexperience with the program Flash 8, the episode was postponed until the following year after JTmovie took a brief animation course in High school. The final attempt at the episode took a total of two weeks to make. This episode was not a "pilot" in anyway. Random characters make an appearance and it has little to no resemblance to the show as it's presented today.

The plot revolves around three heroes, Omega (Devin), Jet Pack and Heatstroke, trying to prevent a rocket bomb from destroying the city on New Years Eve. Three bikers attempt to prevent their goals. The main villain is revealed to be Alpha (Alex), who wants to blow up the city and rule over the remaining rubble. Omega and Alpha fight, while the bikers are taken out by Jet Pack and Heatstroke. The bomb launches off, but Jet Pack flies up just in time to reprogram the missile into space. A disappointed Alpha gets away.

Running Time: 10 minutes

Omega: Cage Match

Cage Match (2010).

Original Episode 2. This episode was made shortly after the first episode in March of 2010. A lot of new designs occurred for much of the city and characters.

The plot mostly consist of Devin following one of the bikers (Trask) from the previous Episode, hoping he can lead him to Alpha. Devin is then lead to an underground cage match. Devin challenges Trask hoping to get information. The two fight, but Trask won't give up. He leaves into a secret room where Devin follows him again. In the room Devin finds himself trapped at the clutches of a mysterious vampire-like villain.

Running Time: 8 minutes

Omega: Trapped

Psi Scenes - Fight

Omega vs. Psi.

Original Episode 3. Devin finds himself trapped from the previous episodes mysterious villain. In this uncertain maze he runs into a former enemy, Psi. Psi can multiply himself and the two have a quick fight until Devin takes on the main villain. Devin struggles with this vampire-like figure. One last attempt he punches' him before the walls of the room cave in. The episode ends on another cliff hanger.

Running Time: 3 minutes

Omega: Undercover

Undercover pic

Original Episode 4. Undercover starts off with Devin breaking free from the room caved in from the last episode. Upon getting out he's swopped up by a team of police and interrogated. The main cop dressed in grey (a prelude to Max), informs him they need his help for a bust. The target is a former police officer who has gone rogue. The officer offers to expunge Devin's criminal record in return. In his overnight stay in prison, Devin is confronted by Madlock. The following day, Devin goes undercover to infiltrate a biker gang. Back at their hideout he meets their leader, who ends up being Trask from Episode 2. Devin confronts him and informs him of the situation of the rogue cop. Trask realizes its a new member named Marco. Devin and Trask work together to arrest him.

Running Time: 7 minutes

Omega: Prison Escape

Prison Escape Marco Madlock

Originally Episode 5 under the name "Showdown". Prison Escape was a scene taken from the original Episode 5 that was canceled. The original episode featured Alpha returning to fight against Devin. The episode was the most ambitious at the time. It had Devin and Alpha fight across the city, falling off buildings, and fighting through factories. It ended up being canceled due to frustration by the creator. Up until that point the show was very unplanned. It lacked a real script, design focus, storyboards, and a consistent overarching plot. Many scenes were animated but unfinished.

The Prison Escape scene itself is a b-plot scene from the episode showing Marco from "Undercover" escaping with Madlock. Marco being a former cop devises a way to shut off the prisons power inhibitors, allowing all the super powered inmates to escape. The 2 minute scene shows him sneaking throughout the prison, getting hold of a weapon and shooting the power inhibitors.

Running Time: 2 minutes

Omega: Boat Chase

Omega Boat Chase

Omega Boat Chase Short (2010)

The Episode short "Boat Chase" (August 2010) served as the first major reboot of the series.

The entire look and design of the show was rethought, scrapping all previous designs, objects, and templates to start from the ground up. The story was more simplified but still undercooked. The short served as a visual function for how the series could look. All characters were animated using premade body parts moved together like a human figure. This was similar to the previous episodes. This time however the designs were now more carefully constructed and were able to be rotated with different body part angles.

The short 3 minute clip takes place on multiple traveling boats. Devin, with a similar suit and bulky look, tries to take down the criminal known as Tec. He hops from boat to boat taking down his goons. Upon finally confronting Tec, Devin is outmatched by his teleportation and gets stranded in the water.

Running Time: 3 minutes

Omega: Episode 5

Old Episode 5

Episode 5 (July 2011) was the first episode made with drawn frame-by-frame animations and served as a second soft reboot of the show.

The story follows the events from "Boat Chase" as Devin hunts down Tec for a final confrontation. The episode also features a biker subplot with Trask vs his former gang leader, Zeke. Most of the episode is a fight between all the mentioned characters, Devin fighting a teleporter on his super villain island; Trask having a hoverbike fight with Zeke for title of gang leader. The animation was rotoscoped and used premade heads. A technique that would be used in all future episodes. The credits used in this episode are very similar to the ones used in the show as it presently stands.

Running Time: 6 minutes

Omega: Episode 6

Omega EPISODE 6 1

Clip from Episode 6 (2013) with Max.

Episode 6 (July 2013) is the final episode before the major reboot in 2013.

The episode opens with Devin retrieving cargo from stolen criminals. As he's trying to land the hovercraft, he accidentally bumps his head on a pipe and awakens in a hospital. Devin, for some unexplained reason is unable to use his powers. He is told to remain there until they can figure out whats causing that. Each night he is awaken by a child who wants him to enter through a white door way. The climax reveals all events in the episode were a dream brought on by a sinister doctor who was testing on children and Devin.

This episode is the first time we see Max, and Alpha makes an appearance in one scene. Devin finally loses his green shorts and red sneakers look. His head design was updated again, keeping his spiky hair.

Running Time: 9 minutes.

Similarities

  • Both shows were made using an Adobe program.
  • "Devin Hawkins" was always Omegas name (although spelled "Devon" briefly).
  • Devin had tattoos on his arms and chest, although black in this version.
  • The show took place in the future.
  • Devin got his powers from a book and in a library.
  • Alpha (Alex) makes an appearance and has a similar voice in this incarnation of the show. His powers are also the same.
  • Max makes an appearance in Episode 6, and the episode follows the current structure of the show.

Differences

Evolution Design

Devin's designs over the years.

  • Only Devin's shirt would turn into "Omega" not the rest of his clothes. This was also out of his control.
  • His powers though technically "magic", did not come directly from the sorcerer Omega until later.
  • In early drafts, his original powers were much different. He had a mimicking ability to copy other powers, and could stick to walls much like Spider-man. He could transform into a monstrous version of himself called "Madness" in a very early concept. Bizarre stuff.
  • Devin's entire style was completely different. He wore a blue shirt, green pants, black gloves, and red sneakers. His hair was spiked up, and he was much larger as designs developed.
  • Alpha was originally a gang leader who got his powers from a book as well. He would hire minions, and his plans often involved ruling the world.
  • Originally, each letter of the Greek Alphabet was going to represent a character with a unique power. The only appearance of this was in Episode 3, by the character Psi. This concept and character have been completely scrapped.
